customMotion - customLAM

The customLam proof of concept machine produces large-scale models directly from 3D cad drawings in a variety of materials. The individual tasks include retrieving and positioning the raw material, applying adhesive, cutting individual laminates and, in selectable low contour areas, three-axis milling.

Interfaced from a touch-screen through a custom HMI developed on Motion Commander by Greene & Morehead Engineering, Inc. The DeltaTau PMAC-PC, mounted in an off-the-shelf PC, controls eight servomotors. Once the raw material is loaded and a zip disk with the CAM program is inserted, the machine runs without an operator for the eight to ten hours required to construct the part.
